Overview
Ozone (O₃) is the most powerful oxidant used in water treatment — 1.5× stronger than chlorine. It oxidizes and destroys organic compounds, eliminates taste and odor, deactivates bacteria, viruses, and Cryptosporidium, and removes iron, manganese, and color from water. Unlike chlorine, ozone leaves no chemical residuals and does not produce trihalomethanes (THMs) or haloacetic acids (HAAs). The mixing tower’s role is to maximize ozone transfer efficiency from gas phase to water phase — the critical design parameter for effective treatment.
Engineering Features
⚗️
High CT Value Design
Counter-current bubble diffusion with microbubble diffusers achieves ozone transfer efficiency > 90%. CT values (concentration × time) designed to meet treatment targets with minimum ozone generation.
🛡
316L Mandatory Construction
Only 316L SS (never 304 SS) is suitable for ozone contact — ozone rapidly corrodes 304 SS. All wetted parts are 316L, PTFE, or ozone-resistant materials.
🔥
Integrated Off-Gas Destructor
Ozone vent gas (excess O₃ not absorbed) is routed through a thermal catalytic destructor before exhaust — meeting occupational exposure limits (<0.1 ppm) and environmental regulations.
📊
Residual Ozone Monitoring
Inline dissolved ozone analyzer (colorimetric or amperometric) monitors contact vessel effluent in real time. Interlock prevents product water from exiting below minimum residual.
🔒
Safety Interlocks
Ozone generator shutdown, gas leak detection, and building ventilation alarm all integrated via PLC. Full HAZOP-reviewed safety design.
🔧
Complete System Package
We supply the contact tower together with ozone generator sizing and selection, feed gas system (air or oxygen), generator, and instrumentation as an integrated package.
Technical Specifications
Typical Applications
- 💧 Bottled Water — Standard disinfection method for premium bottled water worldwide. NSF/FDA approved, no residuals.
- 🥤 Beverage Production — Disinfects process water and rinse water for carbonated drinks, juices, and dairy.
- 🐟 Aquaculture Recirculating Systems — Removes dissolved organic carbon, disinfects, and increases dissolved oxygen simultaneously.
- 🏊 Swimming Pool & Spa — Ozone pool treatment dramatically reduces chlorine demand and eliminates chloramine formation.
- ♻️ Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) — Ozone + UV or ozone + H₂O₂ for micropollutant, pharmaceutical, and pesticide removal from wastewater.
- 🏭 Industrial Wastewater — Color, COD, and phenol removal from textile, paper, and pharmaceutical effluents.
Frequently Asked Questions
What ozone dose do I need?
For bottled water and beverage: 0.4–1 mg/L residual at point of fill (typically 1–2 mg/L applied). For AOP wastewater: 2–10 mg/L. We calculate required dose based on your water quality data and treatment target.
Should I use air-fed or oxygen-fed ozone generation?
Oxygen-fed generates 3–4× more ozone per kWh, needs smaller contact tower, and is more cost-effective above ~50 g/h ozone. Air-fed is lower capital cost for smaller systems. We help you select based on total lifecycle cost.
How safe is ozone to work with?
Ozone has a strong characteristic smell detectable at 0.01 ppm — well below the 0.1 ppm occupational limit (OSHA/NIOSH). Our systems include gas detection, automatic shutdown, and off-gas destruction. Ozone decomposes to oxygen rapidly in air.
Does ozone require contact time before the water can be used?
Yes — a minimum CT (concentration × time) value must be achieved for disinfection credit. After the ozone residual decays to zero (typically 5–15 minutes in treated water), the water is free of ozone and safe for use.
Lead time?
Contact tower: 20–35 days. Complete ozone system including generator: 35–60 days.
