Overview
Pressure tanks store pressurized water in a closed system, absorbing pressure fluctuations caused by pump start/stop, thermal expansion, or sudden demand changes. The pre-charged air cushion (separated from water by a diaphragm or bladder) acts as a hydraulic accumulator — reducing pump cycling frequency, protecting piping from water hammer, and maintaining system pressure during peak demand. Properly sized pressure tanks extend pump life by 3–5× and eliminate pressure shock in piping systems.
Engineering Features
💪
Pre-charged Air Cushion
Factory pre-charged to 70% of system pressure. Field adjustable via Schrader valve. Optimal pre-charge maintains maximum water acceptance volume.
🔄
Replaceable Bladder
Bladder type: bladder replaceable without removing tank from system. Diaphragm type: welded diaphragm, simpler construction for smaller sizes.
🏗
Multiple Construction Options
CS + food-grade epoxy lining (cost-effective, standard): for general water service. 304 SS (no lining needed): for potable water, food contact, and marine service. 316L SS: for seawater, chemical, and pharmaceutical service.
🎚
Wide Pressure Range
0.6, 1.0, 1.6, and 2.5 MPa pressure classes. Match to your system’s maximum allowable working pressure.
⚡
Reduces Pump Cycling
Properly sized tank keeps pumps from short-cycling (< 6 starts/hour). Extends motor life and reduces energy consumption by maintaining steady system pressure.
🔧
Standard Connections
BSP or NPT threaded connections for small tanks. Flanged connections for large vessels. Compatible with all major pressure gauge and relief valve sizes.
Technical Specifications
Typical Applications
- 🏗 Pump Booster Systems — Absorbs pressure spikes and extends pump life in building water supply and irrigation booster sets.
- 🌊 Well Pump Systems — Hydropneumatic storage vessel providing pressure buffer and reducing well pump start frequency.
- 🔥 Thermal Expansion — Absorbs volume expansion in closed heating/cooling systems — prevents over-pressure and relief valve activation.
- 💧 Water Hammer Control — Dampens pressure transients caused by rapid valve closure in distribution systems.
- 🏭 Industrial Process Buffering — Maintains steady pressure supply to process equipment during demand fluctuations.
- ❄️ Chilled Water Systems — Thermal expansion vessel in chilled water loops for building HVAC systems.
Frequently Asked Questions
What pre-charge pressure should I set?
Set pre-charge to 70% of system cut-in pressure. Example: if pump cuts in at 3 bar, set pre-charge to 2.1 bar. This maximizes the usable water volume in the tank and minimizes pump cycling.
How do I size a pressure tank for my booster pump?
Key inputs: pump flow rate (L/min), cut-in pressure, cut-out pressure, and maximum allowable starts/hour. We calculate the required total tank volume and provide a sizing recommendation.
What is the difference between diaphragm and bladder types?
Diaphragm tanks: diaphragm is bonded to the tank wall — cannot be replaced but simpler and lower cost. Bladder tanks: removable bladder serviceable without tank removal — preferred for larger tanks and applications where bladder wear is expected.
How long do bladders last?
EPDM bladders: 7–10 years in potable cold water service. Butyl: similar life, better for slightly elevated temperatures. Replace when tank fails to maintain pressure or bladder is visibly damaged.
Lead time?
Standard sizes (8–500 L): 10–20 days. Large tanks (>500 L) or SS construction: 20–35 days.
